THE SECURITY OF THE BELIEVER BASED ON
THE WORK OF THE SON
Part One
We
began a series on the subject of the security of the believer based upon the
combined work of the trinity. In our
first study we looked at the work of the Father. Now in this study we will examine the work of the Son.
I.
Security Based upon the Death of Jesus Christ
Romans
8:1
- Christ, by His death, has so completely put away sin by paying its penalty – that a believer will never be
brought into judgment (John 5:24).
Visual
pictures of the facet of security
Psalm
103:12 – From
infinity east to infinity west describes the extent of the removal of sins.
Isaiah
38:17 – Sins have
been cast behind His back – one cannot see behind his back.
Micah
7:19 – Sins have been
cast into the depths of the sea. In the
deepest part of the Pacific Ocean there is utter darkness. Where there is no light there is no sight.
Isaiah
44:22 – Sins have been
blotted out as a thick cloud. Just as a
thick cloud blots out the sun from sight – God blots out our sins from His
sight.
Jeremiah
31:34 – “Their
sins and iniquities I will remember no more.”
No man can control his memory – but God, by a sovereign act of His will,
forgets completely and eternally our sins.
II. Security Based upon the Resurrection of
Jesus Christ
Romans
4:25 - He was raised
again because justification was completed.
I
Corinthians 15:1-4 - Note in this
passage there are two points to the gospel:
1.
The death of Jesus Christ – His burial was proof of His
death.
2.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ - The proof of His
resurrection was that He was seen by many.
There is a two-fold result of sin:
spiritual death and physical death. The
two points of the gospel take care of the two-fold result of sin:
(a) the death of Christ took
care of spiritual death (He paid the price for our sins),
(b) the resurrection of Christ
took care of physical death (He overcame death).
III. Security Based
upon the Prayer of Christ
John
17:15-20 – Certainly no prayer of the Son could ever be refused, for He
always asked in the Father’s will.
Also note the points of security present in this prayer.
Your security in Christ is not left to
guesswork. The work of the Father and
the work of the Son secures the believer for all eternity. In two weeks we will examine the securing
work of the Holy Spirit. However, we
will take up the remaining points of the work of the Son in our next pen
pulpit. Until then, God bless!
