The return of Jesus Christ to this earth is one of the most prominent themes taught in Scripture. Prophecies in the Old Testament are many. Many references are found in the New Testament as well. First and Second Thessalonians are perhaps the most prominent epistles in which the theme of Christ’s return occurs. In this study we will share two lines of teaching: (1) practical values, and (2) chronology.
Let’s look at the practical values. The return of Christ is:
1. A stimulating hope because it will be a time when the saints are rewarded. I Thess. 2:19
2. A comforting hope because of a reunion with departed loved ones. I Thess 4:13-18
3. A purifying hope because of its imminence. I Thess. 4:1-12
4. A practical hope that when properly understood should lead to activity, not idleness. I Thessalonians 5
Let’s look at the chronology of the events of the Second Coming.
1. Resurrection of the dead church saints. I Thess. 4:17
2. Rapture of all church saints. I Thess. 4:17
3. Reunion of all church saints. I Thess. 4:17
4. Reward of all church saints. I Thess. 2:19
5. Revealing of the antichrist. II Thess. 2:3
6. Revelation of Jesus Christ. I Thess. 4:17, I Cor. 1:7, I Pet. 1:7, 1:13, 4:13.
7. Re-establishment of God’s kingdom on the earth. II Thess. 1:15
Yes, we have a wonderful blessed hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. That hope behooves us to live in today’s world with that hope before us. And we also know the chronology of when that hope will materialize! “Even so, come soon, Lord Jesus!”
Love to you all,
